The EPIC Innovation Awards honors outstanding individuals and organizations,

across industries, who are making an innovative and inspiring impact in the world.

Our honorees accepted their awards virtually in 2020 due to the global pandemic.

The EPIC Impact Award (Individual) is presented to a person who is living the Society core values of creative leadership ingenuity and humanitarian engagement. 

 

Apolo Ohno is the most decorated American Olympian in Winter Olympics, as an eight-time medalist and U.S. Olympic Hall of Fame inductee  (2019).  He is a New York Times Bestselling Author, high-performance speaker, 'Dancing With The Stars' TV show (Season 4) winner, an entrepreneur, and philanthropist. With an array of incredible accomplishments, he continues to be a catalyst for positive transformation,  inspiring others to stay focused in our ever-changing world while pursuing their dreams.

The EPIC Impact Award (Organization) is presented to to an org that has made significant contributions to advance creativity and innovation with social impact through their projects.  

 

This organization of creative activists, supports media makers who bring awareness of critical global issues and has made significant contributions by "using media and the arts to ignite positive social change" and producing award-winning content featured on PBS, CNN, TBS and OWN. The 2020 EPIC Impact Award is presented to Creative Visions Foundation for their on-going contributions to ignite positive change in the world and to advance creative leadership, ingenuity and humanitarian engagement.

The EPIC Inspiration Award is presented to an individual or organization who has developed a project or programming that has led to significant creative inspiration and social change.

 

Documentary filmmaker, John Chester and his wife, Molly, private chef, pivoted their careers to pursue a passion and became farmers. Their journey to develop a sustainable 200-acre farm is documented in the 2018 award-winning and visually stunning film, 'Biggest Little Farm'.   They continue to be a beacon of inspiration with their practice of Biodynamic Farming, a holistic livestock program and documentary series for Animal Planet. They are an EPIC inspiration for creative change and demonstrate innovation with positive results.

The EPIC Mentor Award is presented to an individual or organization who has facilitated positive growth and development in others through a highly creative process.

YOLA (Youth Orchestra Los Angeles) provides young people, ages 5-18, free instruments, intensive music instruction and performance in their communities and on stages around the world. In addition to YOLA’s local programs, which serve under-resourced communities across Los Angeles, YOLA National provides an ever-growing number of opportunities for young musicians, teaching artists, program administrators and other stakeholders to learn from and create community.  This division of the Los Angeles Philharmonic provides EPIC mentorship, facilitating positive growth in youth unlocking creative potential and sharing the gift of music with the world.

The EPIC Legacy Award is presented to an individual who has demonstrated a life of exemplary accomplishment in their field and has played a defining role in transforming their area of influence. 

 

British Pop and Rock music producer, songwriter, composer and musician, Gary Miller has had a highly successful career working with a vast array of talent such as David Bowie, Sir Elton John, Donna Summer, Lionel Richie, Katie Perry, Kylie Minogue, Bananarama and Simply Red. He has taken his talent  and formed a foundation to produce and release music to raise awareness and funding to fight Human Trafficking. Gary has demonstrated a life of exemplary accomplishments in his profession and is using his talent to become an EPIC visionary in support of human rights.

The EPIC Artist Award is presented to an artist who has demonstrated outstanding creative and innovative artistic accomplishments in their profession.  

 

J. D.  has produced and written songs for major artists such as Zedd, Hunter Hayes, Seal, Audien and Echosmith, including Echosmith’s pop hit and triple platinum single, “Cool Kids” and double platinum single, “Bright”(Warner Records). Jeffery has had over 350 syncs (Monday Night Football, MTV, VH1) and has also written for TV shows, including The Voice, Glee, American Idol, The Biggest Loser and ESPN. Additionally, he's scored 12 worldwide commercials for brands such as: Guess, Southwest Airlines and Lamborghini. His use of talent to generate creativity and artistry through inspiring music content with positive messages is an EPIC accomplishment.

 

EDUCATOR AWARD: Machik

The EPIC Educator Award is presented to an individual or education organization demonstrating innovative approaches to inspire change. Founded on core values of service and engagement, Machik is dedicated to a brighter future for Tibet. They've developed new sustainable initiatives for education, capacity building, technology and entrepreneurial strategics for the rural plateau Tibetan communities. They invest in creative students who are committed to service and making a positive difference in their communities. Machik place #1 across 53 National schools. Chungba, their Primary School, is a model for a region of nearly a million Tibetans, with six program areas: The Chungba Project, Summer Enrichment Program, Women's Initiative, Youth Leadership, Social Entrepreneurship and Governance. As visionary educators, their ingenuity, innovation and visionary community service is EPIC.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT:  United Way (SB)

The EPIC Community Engagement Award is presented to an organization that has demonstrated significant creative engagement within a community and that has resulted in positive transformation. 

 

United Way / Home For Good (Santa Barbara County) supports a Coordinated Entry System, a no-wrong door, countrywide system that engages and connects individuals and families experiencing homelessness; providing optimal resources to meet their needs.

Through their efforts that include establishing strategic partnerships, efforts to improve education and helping people achieve stability, the EPIC Impact Society is proud to recognize their tireless efforts to engage with the community and catalyze positive transformation. 

The EPIC Ingenuity Award is presented to an individual or organization who has created new experiences, products or services which have benefited lives of individuals, organizations or communities.

 

 As an interactive artist, filmmaker and speaker, Ivan celebrates human connection and belonging in our tech-saturated world.  Cash was named Forbes 30 &  Under 30 Artist, and has inspired thoughtful reflection through highly creative approaches by drawing attention to important social issues.  With his very unique and innovative projects such as: "Snail Mail My Email", "Selfless portraits", "No-Tech Zone" and "IRL Glasses", Cash's ingenuity has produced EPIC creativity, innovation and hope for positive change.
